Building Barre
This class is just like it sounds! We will use a barre to help build strength, coordination, correct posture, and balance. While we will be borrowing from Classical ballet this will be very far removed from a typical ballet class. Nor will it be like an exercise barre class that you see around town. This will be a gentle and steady approach while working at the barre with minimal turn out and many parallel exercises. It is amazing what working at the barre does for your posture, core, and spine health. We will also have a short period away from the barre while standing working on a few exercises followed by a nice long stretch sequence. The stretch sequence can be done on a mat or in a chair. This class will be offered twice a week.
Tone and Stretch
This class will be more along the lines of our current conditioning class. We will warm up at a barre just like we do in out Building Barre but will then progress to exercises with resistance bands for leg and arm work. We will also have a section that focuses solely on core. This class will also finish with a nice stretch sequence.
Core Balance
This class will be an exciting fusion of the two classes above. Balance is so often about core strength and proper weight distribution. We will be building balance while on one leg as well as two. We will focus on building strong muscles to support this and start feeling what proper weight distribution feels like. So often we are back in our heels or transferring weight in our gait in ways that we are unaware of. Once we start being aware of what our habits are we can build the support needed to change those habits. For example, I know when I am tired I sit in my low back. That puts my weight in my heels and can create instability. However, knowing that I do strengthen against it.
So be thinking about these fun Classes! My next blog post will be announcing our start date!
See you soon!
